Words for a real moment
What to say when someone has died
You do not need perfect words. Name your care plainly, avoid explanations, and make no reply necessary.

Words you can use
A ready-to-send version
I’m thinking of you and remembering your loss. I can listen for ten minutes or simply send a quiet hello. Say yes, no, or nothing at all — I will follow your lead. You can decide later today.
A useful approach
Acknowledge their loss plainly and do not ask them to make conversation.
Give them a choice between a brief chat and a message they can answer later.
If they decline or stay quiet, check once tomorrow and then give them space.
