Words for a real moment

What to say when someone is unwell or recovering

A good check-in should not create another health questionnaire. Keep it warm, ordinary and easy to ignore until they have energy.

Words you can use

A ready-to-send version

You have been on my mind. I can listen for ten minutes or simply send a quiet hello. You do not need to explain anything, and no reply is required. If today is not right, that is completely fine.

A useful approach

  • Offer care that does not require them to explain symptoms or progress.

  • Give them a choice between a brief chat and a message they can answer later.

  • Leave the offer open for today; do not send another message until tomorrow.
